Leadership
Multimodality in the Week of Writing: The aim of this week long activity at 3700 Walnut Street (that's the GSE building!) was to engage passers-by at GSE in quick writing, whilst spreading word on the Day of Writing. Text-based approaches would not work - visual prompts had to be created to catch interest.
The tactile resources for writing and drawing, together with the digital options added to the layers of creative possibility for each participant. The Padlet at the end of this page shows one of the activities with responses.

Ekphrastic Poetry
Day 1 prompts were based on famous paintings by Salvador Dali and Edward Hopper.
I have always been intrigued by the emotive value of art which transcends words - whether it was the original intention of the artist or not. Poetry conveys more with less words, so I wanted to see how other Penn students would phrase these big emotions!

Artifacts of Significance
This activity was prompted by my reflections in field notes for 5300! I was thinking of the dimensions of the word "artifact". I am also curious about what people keep in their pockets. Also a morbid thought: I wonder if someone were to die all of a sudden, what personal effects would be discovered in their pockets? Thus, the artifacts of significance activity was born.

Ekphrastic Poetry Redux
I revisited the Day 1 prompts by adding two more artworks to the mix - one by my favorite Pakistani artist, Shazia Sikander. People were now permitted to write about one or more of the pieces - in conversation if they so pleased. This brought the Week of Writing tabled sessions to an end, in time for the final Day of Writing.
